Beyond Sports · FIM Medical Commission

Medical

The Medical Commission of MSFK is mandated to uphold the highest possible safety and medical standards in all motorcycle sports across Kenya — before, during, and after every event.

Working in alignment with FIM Africa and guided by the FIM International Medical Code, our protocols are designed to protect the life and health of every rider, official, volunteer, and spectator involved in the sport.

What We Do

Our Role

Policy Development & Enforcement

Set and regularly review national medical standards in line with FIM Africa requirements and the Sports Act of Kenya.

Medical Risk Assessment

Guide organisers in pre-event medical planning — including evacuation strategy, trauma care, and medical staff allocation based on track size and rider volume.

Event Certification & Oversight

Ensure certified medical personnel and compliant medical infrastructure at all MSFK-sanctioned events across all disciplines.

Capacity Building & Training

Certify Medical Officers of the Meeting (MoMs), trauma responders, and field medics through CPD-aligned training programmes.

Event Standards

Mandatory Medical Requirements

Every MSFK-sanctioned event must meet these minimum medical requirements before receiving official sanction.

Medical Officer of the Meeting (MoM)

A certified MoM appointed and approved by MSFK must be present at every event, responsible for all on-site medical operations and decisions.

Advanced Life-Support Ambulance

At least one fully equipped ALS ambulance must be stationed on-site for the duration of the event, with direct track access.

Medical Marshals & First Aid

Medical marshals deployed at strategic course locations, with on-site first aid tents, hydration stations, and mandatory safety briefings.

Air Medevac Planning

High-risk events require documented air medevac contingency plans with designated landing zones and pre-notified trauma hospitals.

Injury Management

Medical Reporting & Data

All injuries logged using standardised MSFK incident forms at every event
Concussions and suspected trauma documented, tracked, and reported to the Commission
Riders with serious injuries subject to mandatory medical clearance before returning to competition
Data reviewed quarterly by the Medical Commission to inform and continuously improve safety planning
Preventative Health

Wellness & Preventative Care

Baseline Medical Screening

All licensed riders undergo medical screening for fitness-to-race including cardiac health assessment before each season.

Concussion Protocols

Based on global best practice — Graduated Return to Ride (GRTR) programmes in line with FIM concussion management guidelines.

Mental Health & Burnout Support

Counselling referral pathways available for riders and officials experiencing mental health challenges or performance burnout.

Female Rider Health Support

Tailored health sessions run in collaboration with the Women in Motorcycling Commission, addressing the specific health needs of female riders.
